  from the webmasters..................
Its time to make plans to attend the 2008 reunion. Dates are set.  September 19-21, 2008.

Reunion Time is just a few weeks away.  Take the time to plan your fall vaction.  See the information below.

Jonn is planning a big reunion and would love to see you all there.

We have had some website issues due to hosting and Joyce and I have worked hard to get everything back up and running.  We have a few minor fixes but should have the site fully up in a few weeks.

See you in a few weeks in Laughlin.

Webmasters.

TPlans are under way.  If you haven't received your snail  mailing reference the reunion in September contact Jonn Forslin. jonnsr1@gmail.com

Jonn has set up headquarters at the Tropicana Express ( formerly the Ramada Express) September 19 -21, 2008. www.tropicanax.com   Phone Number:  1-800-243-6846 .  Please reference Whiskey Battery 1-12 when making reservations reference this code # 12845 .  The hospitality room is smaller than the past, but should be adequate for us. It has TVS, etc, and we can set up a bar.  We can also have small food items. It was some what cost heavy. It may be the first time we had to pay for a hospitality room. However, there are cost savings in having one.

Instead of having an outdoor, cook it ourselves, breakfast; I am deciding on having it at the Regency Casino.  This is the smallest casino on the river, and sits between 2 giant ones (I think my house is bigger than it...LOL.)   It does sit on the river bank, and the people are great and the price is right....Most of the other places I have talked to want an abnormal price and BS.  Also, it sits almost at the dock of the Celebration (The dinner cruise boat).    More to come on this......

We are basically set for the 19th of Sept.

The Regency (almost immediately across from the Tropicana Express), will be the site of our breakfast meeting.  (The regency is between 2 very BIG Casinos, and immediatly to the left of the Gas station across from the Trop.)  (I have skipped over the previously planned, outside breafast venue, for several reasons.  Also Saturday will be a long day anyway.)  {also, I have started teaching (construction) at the Community College in the evening, and will be busy there until about 9PM on the 19th (friday night).

I think you all know I am not a FU-FU type of Marine, so I haven't put any effort into T-shirts and decor; except for USMC items.  I have a USMC Flag and an American Flag that will work.

We are going to set up 3 basic breakfast dishes, so I would like some input on what would be everyones' pleasure.  As some already know, they are opening up their breakfast service, just for us.  Email me with your opinions...  jonnsr1@gmail.com

I don't know who has the "sole-survivor bottle", but I hope it arrives.

The Tropicana Express is awaiting us.

And most of all,  I would sure like to see our "Texas Lady" show up......

1 Use your head,
not your money, to have fun at the reunion.
Las Vegas gambling alone rakes in over a billion dollars a month
2 Laughlin
and
Bullhead City
These two cities are located across from each other by the Colorado River.
Laughlin is named after Don Laughlin who established Laughlin as a
casino/resort area. He paid to have the bridge, that connects the two cities,
out of his own pocket about 20 years ago. I think he got his money back.

Bullhead City is named after a rock formation that was in the river, but is now
covered up by water. This was in about 1930 when the Parker dam was built.
Laughlin is a casino Mecca, and Bullhead City thrives as a major business center. I buy my cigarettes in Laughlin for $30.00 a carton. I would quit smoking, but then I would be perfect. It is also advised to check out rentals (re: Jet Skis) on the Arizona side of the river.

3 Oatman An old mining town located on old Rt 66. The unofficial census is about 150
humans and 12-14 burros. These are wild animals that descend from the old burros of years ago. They are wild, but you feed the adults with carrots only. You can but a bag of carrots from the local vendors for $1.00 a bag. NOT NOT FEED THE YOUNG ONES. The locals will get on your burro (ass). They are very protective of them.  You will see these burros going into the stores and etc. You can go upstairs in the Oatman Hotel and see where Clark Gable and Carol Lombardi honeymooned in 1939. You can also stay the night there, is you so please (for a sum). They also have a street showdown, with the good guys winning the shootout.  (note: park you vehicle at the end of town you will be leaving. When the show starts no vehicles can get through.

4 Gold Road Mine Just 2 1/2 miles on the road east from Oatman, is a working gold mine. Tours are available. They say they make more money from the tours, then they do from the gold.

5 Firing Range Close to Kingman is a great firing range. It is sponsored by the NRA and has ranges up to 1000 yds. It has skeet, bow and arrow, pistols and what ever. It cost about $12.00 to use, but Wendy and I joined for a year for $35.00 total.

6 Yucca Not much here, unless you are testing experimental vehicles, and can find the track. What is here though; is a "what the *&%* is that". To let you not get puzzled; it is a 40 ft geodesic dome, that looks like a giant golf ball on a tee. It is a home. It is immediately by the freeway (I-40). There are 42 steps to the first floor, 20 steps to the second floor, and 18 more to the 3rd floor.

7 Lake Havasu City Just 2 1/2 miles on the road east from Oatman, is a working gold mine. Tours are available. They say they make more money from the tours, then they do from the gold.

8 Other Arizona
Towns
While driving around Arizona, you have the opportunity to go Nowhere (AZ),
or you can go see
Nothing (AZ). You also have the chance to go to Congress (AZ)

9 Helicopter Rides I'm up in the air on this one. (www.heliUSA.com)

10 Dinner Cruise I would like to reserve seating for a Saturday night dinner cruise for those that
desire. The cost is about $35.00 (per person) and the food is great.

Travel from the airports to Laughlin
11 Bullhead City There is a good airport in Bullhead City. However, there is only one commercial airlines that I am aware of (Sun Country) that has service out of it. Also it departs from Minneapolis. I am still working on this.

12 Phoenix This is an option. It is not a bad drive, but it takes about 5 hours.

13 Las Vegas Las Vegas is 100 miles from Kingman, and about 90 miles to
Laughlin. It takes  less than 2 hours to drive it.

14 Hoover Dam Whether you have been to the Hoover Dam or not, it is worth going to you.
They are erecting the worlds' largest arched bridge, and I am amazed at the engineering that goes into it. Directions are elsewhere in these papers. Also, some modes of transportation may be restricted. More to come on this.
i.e.: Commercial Trucking is routed through Laughlin

15 Golf Courses Mojave Resort Golf Club   (www.mojaveresortgolfclub.com)
El Rio Country Club  (www.elriocountryclub.com)
Laughlin Ranch (www.laughlinranch.com)
(in Kingman)  Cerbat Cliffs Golf Club nice course for $30.00 / on weekends
There are others along the river.
Also check out Coyote Canyon Golf Course in Wikieup.

16 Coyote Canyon
Golf Course
The pros don't stop and tune up their game at this course, but the casual
golfer will find there are no green fees, and sometimes, even the balls are
complimentary. The course is a nine holer. The sign on the club house
window (of the mobile home) syas; loose balls found on the ninth fairway
and driving range, are to be left on the course, because they belong to
the country club. Equally important is the sign on the gate that reads;
Course Open. Cattle on course. Keep Gate Closed.
17 Chloride Near Kingman, it has "Art on the Rocks". aka: Purcell's' Canvas.
It rises up the canyon by 75 ft. It was done a few years ago, and an agent from the National Parks Service told the artist to stop. However, he didn't say how long to stop. So Purcell took a break, and finished it later. Evidently, the park ranger didn't tell him, how long to stop. You have to walk little over a mile to see it.
